I just read the 10 X10 News Article recounting the birth and life of deviantART.

Would you mock me if I told you it actually brought a tear to my eye?

I've been a member here for 6 years, and I can honestly say that deviantART changed my life.

I find it hard to believe that way back when I joined deviantART, I didn't even own a camera, and would never have called myself an 'artist', even though I have always been creative in one way or another. I actually joined because my boyfriend at the time was a member, and he had been acting sketchy, so I wanted to keep tabs on him.

Yup, I joined to stalk my boyfriend.

Then I bought a camera, started posting work, interacting with other deviant, and learning.

I am very much a person of a one track mind. I tend to focus on one thing, with all my energy, to the exclusion of other things. SO when I got my mind set on photography, I lost myself in it, and I loved it. I remember one photoshoot I set up. 4 models, hair & make up artist, myself & another photographer and a third photographer documenting the day.  It was the longest day of my life, I swear, but one of the best. The images I produced that day are still some of my favourite.  

I miss photography & I am constantly talking to one of my models about getting together again to do another shoot. We're both out of practice, so it would be fun to give it a try. We should do that.

I'm trying to get better at dividing up my interests so that I am not focused on just one activity. It is hard. Some of you may have noticed that I started to submit less photography when my focus turned to running & training for the marathon last year.  I'm still running, but I'm not running the marathon this year, so that should free up some time.

When I think back over the steps I have taken in my life to get me where I am today, deviantART is definitely a big part of the story of what makes me who I am today.  I have met people here that I still talk to on a daily basis.

6 years ago when I joined. I was 27 years old and not in the best place in my life. I was alone, unhappy, and just going through the motions of life. I wasn't living.  Today I sit here in an amazing place in my life, happy, in love, fit, healthy and surrounded by amazing friends.  

That boyfriend I mentioned earlier, the one I followed here, he hasn't been active for over 5 years, but his gallery is still there, including pictures of me. I remember causing quite a stir with him when I submitted a deviation in which I burned a photograph of him that he had given me. Apparently he didn't appreciate that. But don't worry, he has been replaced by a much better version.
